BROMPTON was born in London, England, in 1975.In the past 45 years, BROMPTON's unremitting pursuit of materials and technology and durability have been proven by time.

Good quality also needs careful care, let's look at the simple and practical BROMPTON maintenance skills.

➊BRAKING
Brakes are the basis of a good ride experience, and the BROMPTON uses a dual-pivot brake system that is not only powerful, but also easy to adjust and maintain.
STEP 1
For optimal performance, extending the life of the rim and brake pads, it is most important to keep the rim brake surfaces clean.
Dust, dirt, and general dirt accumulate around brake pads and on the edges.Therefore, it is necessary to use the brake disc cleaner to clean the brake surface with a cloth.
STEP 2
After cleaning, apply a little lubricant (ideally chain lubricant on the brake pin pivot point, spring liner and the brake cable).
Be however: Do not apply any lubricant on the brake pads or rims.If accidentally touched, thoroughly clean with oil remover before riding a bicycle, otherwise it will affect the braking effect and have safety risks.
➋WHEELS
The wheel group is a vital part of the bicycle, and also largely determines the performance of the bicycle and the comfort of the rider.Therefore, they also require regular cleaning and inspection.
STEP 1
The rims are often stained with some corrosive dirt, and they may also mix the worn aluminum powder on the rim brake surface and accelerate the wear of the rim and brake pads.Therefore, it is very necessary to use a hard hair brush to clean the rims and tires, and to remove the brake residues.After cleaning, make sure to wash the soapy water off the wheels with clean cold water.
If the rims are found to be worn out, replace them immediately.
STEP 2
Next is the part of the tire.
Check the tire for wear and remove any gravel and debris that may be embedded in the tread.When the tire is damaged or overworn, check the tire side for damage and replace the tire.
STEP 3
Moreover, tire pressure is an important factor affecting riding comfort and safety, and underinflated tires may be punctured or damaged.
More importantly, underinflated tires can increase the difficulty of trampling.The BROMPTON has smaller tires and the loss of any pressure has a greater impact than conventional bikes.

The best suitable tire pressure depends on personal preference, but the BROMPTON recommended tire pressure range will depend on the tire side wall, usually 80-100psi.
➌ CHAIN GEARING
Like brake parts, chains and sprockets may cause blockage due to the accumulation of road dirt, mud and other things.Timely cleaning can avoid many subsequent damage.
STEP 1
The filth that stays in the chain for a long time is like a "scrub."Every time you step the pedal, the "scrub" grind a lap around the drivetrain parts of the bike.If too dirty, dirt may also accumulate in hard-to-reach areas, such as chain tight arms.It is a great headache.
When cleaning the chain, spray a rag, such as a disc brake cleaner, and then step the chain back to achieve a more thorough cleaning effect.
STEP 2
After cleaning and drying the chain, maintenance can be done with a new lubricant.The best way is to carefully drop a drop of lubricant on each roller.Although it will take longer than spraying lubricating oil on the chain, it can ensure better maintenance.
After applying the oil, rotate the pedal back several laps to allow the oil into the roller, and finally, wipe away the excess oil in the chain with a cloth.
➍HINGE
Folding with a hinge is the most distinctive design of the BROMPTON.In the life of a bike's BROMPTON, the hinge part has to be open and closed countless times, so the hinge part is also the focus of daily maintenance.
STEP 1
The threads and gaskets of the hinge clamp bolt shall be applied with grease and, after application, the hinges are opened and closed several times to allow the grease to better enter the "gap" of the bolt and erase the excess.
If the hinge splints are found to become stiff, also apply a thin layer of grease on the inside of the splint to make them easier to loosen.
STEP 2
The condition of the hinge splint also needs to be noted, which is aluminum like some parts on the BROPMTON, and the service life of this material is limited.
When the gap between the hinge splint and the hinge is less than 1 mm, the hinge splint is replaced to ensure safe hinge closure.
➎SEATPOST
It is also necessary to ensure that the bike seat pole is clean.Because any contamination on the seat pole or sleeve in the frame can cause the pole to slide down while riding and can make it difficult to lift the pole when folding or unfolding the bike.
Using a sponge and bicycle special cleaning agent to wipe the seat pole, is the most daily maintenance.However, many cleaning products leave residue, so be sure to rinse with warm water after cleaning.

➊ rainy days after riding maintenance
The cycling environment is poor in rainy days, and because the main material of the BROMPTON frame is steel, in order to avoid rust, more attention should be paid to the maintenance after cycling in rainy days.
Body: use wet cloth or detergent to wipe the stains, and then wipe them again with dry cloth;
Folold hinge: drop of WD-40 in the hinge gap to prevent rust;
Block pipe: clean with dry cloth, it is recommended to thoroughly dry before folding;
Chain: wipe off the foreign body sediment and oil in time, and then on the chain oil to avoid rust.
➋ Update for loss class parts
Many accessories of the bicycle are daily losses, and regular inspection and updates are also very important.
FTire: please replace the drum bag, puncture, or ride more than 8,000 kilometers;
Line pipe: if found broken wire, wear, or cycling more than 8,000 kilometers, replace according to the specific circumstances;
Brake block: replace when the grinding consumption exceeds the marking line;
Chain: Measure the elongated value and replace it when it exceeds 0.75;
Hinge splint: When the knob is tightened, replace the hinge splint with less than 1mm;
Hinge: the frame fold hinge, the head tube fold hinge appears shaking, the rear triangle axle travel gap exceeds 1mm, please take the bike to the bike shop in time.

In addition to the daily basic maintenance,
Deeper maintenance work can be periodically handed over to the bike shop, BROMPTON sincerely suggest:
When riding over a year or 5,000 km,
Go to the store for full bike maintenance.
